Overview
Designing a New Feature for Zoom
In this project, my objective was to improve Zoom by tackling a prevalent issue I faced as an online educator. My reliance on virtual backgrounds led me to struggle with finding specific backgrounds in my Zoom library. Virtual backgrounds, avatars, and video filters are all housed under the Backgrounds and Settings tab, forming libraries of usable assets. Both avatars and backgrounds are customizable and expandable. Regrettably, users lack the option to organize, search, or filter these assets, resulting in time wasted searching or resorting to external storage solutions for efficient asset management. This was my first project integrating a feature into an existing product, I learned the importance of adapting within established design systems. Zoom's closed design system required meticulous attention to detail in matching while innovating. As I finalized my prototype, Zoom underwent a UI update, adding a search function for virtual backgrounds. I'm curious to see if any elements from my design influence future updates of Zoom.
